Recently, a large wildlife wreaked havoc in Hawaii, resulting in the lose of many lives and wildlife.

최근 하와이에서 발생한 대형 산불로 인해 큰 피해를 입었고, 많은 사람들과 동식물이 희생되었다.

Meanwhile, there is something called a seed vault.

한편, 시드 볼트(seed vault)라는 것이 있다.

​

This is a type of plant seed storage facility set up as a safeguard against the disappearance of plant species due to natural disaster, climate change, or war.

이는 자연재해, 기후 변화, 전쟁 등으로 식물이 사라질 경우에 대비하여 설치한 일종의 식물 종자 저장소이다.

There are two such vaults in the world : one in Svalbard, Norway, and the other in Bonghwa, right here in Korea.

전 세계에 두 곳의 시드 볼트가 있는데, 하나는 노르웨이 스발바르(Svalbard)에, 다른 하나는 우리나라 봉화에 위치하고 있다.

Norway stores seeds of food crops, while Korea stores seed of wild plants.

노르웨이는 식량 작물의 종자를, 우리나라는 야생 식물의 종자를 보관하고 있다.

Unlike a seed bank, which provides seeds to be used as needed, a seed vault in intended as a last resort to preserve seeds for future use when plants become necessary.

필요할 때 씨앗을 꺼내어 활용하는 것이 목적인 시드 뱅크와 달리, 시드 볼트는 미래에 식물들이 필요하게 되었을 때, 최후의 수단으로 쓰기 위해 종자를 보존하는 목적을 가지고 있다.
