24.09.11 My Students’ Graduation

​I have been an elementary school teacher for 10 years.

저는 10년째 초등학교 교사로 재직 중입니다.

​

This year, I became the homeroom teacher for a group of 6th graders.

올해는 6학년 담임을 맡게 되었습니다.

* homeroom teacher : 담임교사

* 6th grader : 6학년생

I have taught various grades over the years, but this is my first time being a 6th-grade homeroom teacher.

그동안 여러 학년을 가르쳐 봤지만, 6학년 담임이 된 것은 처음입니다.

I found it challenging to guide children who are going through puberty.

한창 사춘기에 접어든 아이들을 지도하기란 여간 어려운 일이 아니었습니다.

The most difficult part was managing aspects of their lives outside of class. These included relationships with classmates and issues with friends of the opposite sex.

교우 관계, 이성 친구 문제 등 수업 외적인 생활 관리가 가장 어려운 부분이었습니다.

It has been a chaotic year, but I have grown very attached to the kids.

비록 정신없이 흘러온 한 해였지만, 아이들과 미운 정 고운 정이 많이 들었습니다.

The students will be graduating soon, and I feel sad to think that we will be parting ways.

곧 졸업인 아이들과 헤어질 생각을 하면 꽤나 섭섭합니다.

There were many days when they drove me crazy.

제 속을 썩인 날들이 참 많았습니다.

Even so, I must really love these kids if I feel this sad about letting them go.

그럼에도 불구하고 떠나보낼 생각에 서운한 마음이 드는 걸 보면, 저는 이 아이들을 많이 사랑하는 것 같습니다.

* let someone go : ~을 떠나보내다, 놓아주다.
