24.09.13 A Second Hometown

The neighborhood in Seoul where I was born doesn’t evoke a sense of hometown for me because I moved so often during my childhood.

어린 시절 자주 이사를 다닌 탓에, 내가 태어난 곳인 서울의 한 동네는 나에게 고향의 이미지를 가지고 있지는 않다.

But there is one city that has stirred feeling of affection and nostalgia in me.

Recently, when it was hit by a typhoon and suffered severe flooding, I felt an urge to rush over and help with the recovery efforts.

최근에 태풍으로 피해를 입고 물난리를 겪었을 때, 당장이라도 달려가 복구 작업을 돕고 싶을 정도였다.

I discovered the city a few years ago because of a Pokemom game.

몇 년 전, 포켓몬 게임 때문에 이 도시를 알게 되었다.

I remember visiting two or three times a month to enjoy the game.

게임을 즐기기 위해 매달 두세 번은 다녀왔던 기억이 난다.

The shops, parks, and lakes I passed by while walking the streets are still vivid in my mind.

거리를 걸으면서 지나친 상점, 공원, 호수 등이 아직까지 눈에 선하다.

The sunrise at the crack of dawn is a view that never gets old.

It is my dream to spend my retirement there.

그곳에 가서 노년을 보내는 것이 나의 꿈이다.

Just hearing its name gets me excited.

이름만 들어도 설레는 그곳,

Today, once again, I deeply miss the charm of Sokcho.

오늘도 나는 속초의 정취가 정말 그립다.
