24.08.28 Korean Schools Abroad

There are currently 34 Korean schools in 16 countries for expats overseas.

현재 해외 동포를 위한 재외 한국 학교는 16개국에 34개 학교가 있다.

In March last year, my husband was dispatched to a Korean school abroad for three years, and we have been living at his place of work together.

작년 3월, 남편이 재외 한국 학교로 3년간 파견되어 함께 근무지에서 생활하고 있다.

The overseas Korean school here uses Korean textbooks for classes.

이곳 재외 한국 학교는 한국 교과서로 수업을 한다.

The students also have 12 hours of English and 4 hours of the local language every week, putting in a lot of effort to improve their foreign language skills. ​

거기에 추가로 학생들은 주당 영어 12시간, 현지어 4시간을 배우며 외국어 능력 향상에도 힘쓰고 있다.

I was especially impressed when, during a talent show held by the 6th-grade students last year, the program was introduced in Korean, English, and the local language.

작년 6학년 학생들이 진행하는 학예 발표회에서, 한국어-영어-현지어로 프로그램을 소개하는 장면이 참 인상적이었다.

I hope that the students at these overseas Korean schools will grow up to become talented adults who serve as bridges between Korean and the host countries, contributing to the development of both.

이런 재외 한국 학교 학생들이 한국과 현지 국가를 잇는 가교 역할을 하며, 두 나라의 발전에 공헌하는 인재들로 성장했으면 좋겠다.

I also hope that the school will continue to develop during my husband’s remaining term and that he will complete his work without incident before we return to Korea.

또한 남편의 남은 임기 동안 학교가 더욱 발전하고, 무탈하게 근무를 마치고 귀국했으면 좋겠다.
