A study by researchers from Columbia Business School and Stanford University focused on unsolicited advice - often referred to as mansplaining - and found that it has similar negative effects regardless of whether it comes from men or women.

Women read scenarios involving uninvited career advice and reported feeling less respected or valued.

However, when the advice came from a woman, participants were less likely to attribute it to gender stereotypes.
