24.10.22 My German Eye Doctor

I’ve been living in Munich, Germany since last April. I moved here with my husband, who is stationed here for work.

저는 작년 4월부터 주재원으로 발령받은 남편을 따라 독일 뮌헨에서 지내고 있습니다.

* be stationed somewhere for work : 업무로 발령을 받다

One day, my eyes started itching and became bloodshot.

하루는 눈이 가렵기 시작하더니 충혈되었고,

* become bloodshot : (눈이) 충혈되다

Eventually, I couldn’t bear the pain.

결국에는 통증을 참기 힘들어졌습니다.

* can’t bear the pain : 통증을 견딜 수 없다

​

So, I went to see an eye doctor in Marienplatz.

그래서 마리엔 광장 (Marienplatz)에 있는 안과를 방문했습니다.

* go to see an eye doctor : 안과에 방문하다

The doctor said that my eyes were in bad shape and advised me to visit every 3 to 4 days to monitor my condition.

선생님은 저의 눈 상태가 안 좋다며, 경과 관찰을 위해 3~4일 간격으로 병원을 방문하라고 했습니다.

* be in bad shape : 상태가 좋지 않다

* every 3 to 4 days : 3~4일 간격으로

* monitor someone’s condition : ~의 경과를 관찰하다, 컨디션을 관리하다

During each consultation, my husband and the doctor had long conversations in German.

진료받는 동안 매번 남편과 선생님은 한참 동안을 독일어로 이야기했습니다.

* have a long conversation : 긴 대화를 하다

I asked what they were talking about.

대화 내용을 물어보니,

* what someone is talking about : ~가 무슨 이야기를 하는지

​

The doctor had mentioned things like his son’s visit to Seoul, and that Korean script is intricate and beautiful.

본인의 아들이 서울 여행을 다녀온 이야기, 한글은 글씨체가 정교하고 아름답다는 등의 이야기를 했다고 합니다.

* intricate and beautiful : 정교하고 아름다운

He seemed to be deeply interested in Korea.

그분은 한국에 대한 관심이 많으신 것 같습니다.

* be deeply interested : 관심이 많다

He even greeted us by bowing his ​head instead of shaking hands. He appeared to be familiar with our cultural custom.

그리고 우리의 문화를 아시는지, 악수를 하지 않고 같이 고개를 숙여 인사해 주셨습니다.

* bow one’s head : 고개를 숙이다

* be familiar with : ~을 익히 알다

The doctor also checked my eyes thoroughly, and thanks to his careful attention, I was able to quickly recover.

저의 눈 상태도 꼼꼼하게 봐 주셨고, 그분의 세심한 관심 덕분에 저는 금방 나을 수 있었습니다.
